Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in the list of world’s 100 most influential people in Digital Governance

Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad is India’s minister for electronics and IT. His ministry is working on a new data protection framework for India, digital inclusion and cyber security. It has initiated several new e-governance initiatives, including a unified mobile app for services, an online procurement platform and an open government data platform. He was critical in bringing digital TV to India and also led the corporatisation of the Indian film industry. He is a designated senior advocate in India’s Supreme Court.


He has been named in the list of world's 100 most influential people in Digital Governance.


The list has been prepared by a leading UK-based NGO, Apolitical, which presents global platforms for governments that help public servants, experts and partners to find the ideas to solve the challenges facing the society. Some of the leading entrepreneurs, authors, senior policy advisers, technologists and professors of Harvard University are members of this body, while its partners include the World Bank, and the World Economic Forum.

 

He has been leading the Government's digital efforts which include programmes such as Digital India that aims to empower citizens through the use of technology and digital delivery of services. He has emphasised the need for greater inclusion in society through the use of technology in areas such as health, education and delivery of government services and subsidies.
