Facebook has confirmed that lots of user’s passwords were being stored in a “readable text format” within its servers and it was exposed and readily accessible to FB employees.

Facebook has confirmed that lots of user’s passwords were being stored in a “readable text format” within its servers and it was exposed and readily accessible to FB employees.

As confirmed by FB, affected users will be notified to change their passwords.

FB said that the issue is an internal one and these passwords were never visible to anyone outside of Facebook and they had found no evidence that anyone internally abused or improperly accessed exposed password. Between 200 to 600 million FB users may have had their account passwords stored in plain text and searchable by more than 20,000 Facebook employees.

What’s next: If you’re notified by Facebook that your password has been seen by Facebook employees then you are requested to change your password immediately. Also suggested to change your password on a frequent interval to secure your account.
