Change Management is Key to Success for Digital Organisation… People will resist the change out of fear… Its common scenario wherein resister repeat a lie consistently sowing the seeds of doubt and put to rest an initiative that could succeeded overcoming all challenges… what’s important is how much step forward one can take beyond comfort zone and how much ground reality leadership knows, accepts and act… Rewards to system adopter and counselling of resister was required than penalty…

Company was heavily investing in technology… CEO was technology passionate and so hired new age IT Head… CIO was pushed to take up the assignment to build strong system for sales and marketing which should make field force fully empowered and independent of Back-Office… System need to build for bigger team of field staff and so CIO was excited to take-up this challenge… Members from IT and Sales was setup for selection of solution, wish-list of functionalities for current and future need prepared... Solution selection with all deliberation was done… CFO unwilling given a go-ahead as it was CEO wish to have this system rolled out… Process moved thru stages of As-Is, To-Be, realization, user acceptance and so on… Pilot for select geography was done… Few tweaking was done and final go-ahead from business has taken… CIO finally announced roll-out and within a month entire sales team migrated on new system… CEO being strong believer of system has started monitoring biz result… Facts under the carpet started coming out… Data started giving answer to many questions… Lower field visits is result of lower sale, Non-adherence to the credit policy is cause of higher outstanding and so on… And suddenly there were rise in number of issues in application… Performance issues, compatibility issues wrong data and so on... Surprised CIO started getting pressure from CEO to resolve issues urgently… After not getting any hint of sudden rise in cries, CIO decided to travel with lowest level field staff … And to his surprise issues was much smaller but fear of field team to get trapped due to system was higher… This was the time when engagement was important than being just bullish to push the system… It was time when CIO need to convince Biz about objective of system which is not Policing but tight the loose end and empower team… Rewards to system adopter and counselling of resister was required than penalty… Biz head announced policy accordingly and CIO ensured each small issue is address to fastest speed… System was big success in couple of months!
