India and US sign MoU on Cybercrime Investigations
On January 17, 2025, India and the United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Washington, D.C., to enhance cooperation in cybercrime investigations. The agreement was signed by India's Ambassador to the U.S., Vinay Kwatra, and Acting U.S. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristie Canegallo.
This MoU enables both nations to strengthen collaboration and training in cyber threat intelligence and digital forensics related to criminal investigations. In India, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs will oversee the implementation. In the U.S., the Department of Homeland Security, along with its agencies—the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Center—will be responsible.
Cybercrime is intricately linked to shared security challenges such as terrorism, violent extremism, terror financing, drug trafficking, organized crime, human trafficking, illegal migration, money laundering, and transportation security. This MoU aims to further strengthen India-U.S. security cooperation as part of their comprehensive and global strategic partnership.
